THE ARTIST WELLBEING PROGRAMME.©

Are you aware of how the challenges that can come with working in music can affect you emotionally or physically?

At the start of our careers, we may not be prepared for how the demands of the industry may take a toll on us.

Over time, we can start to feel the effects of these challenges without realising it. Have you ever felt a sense of burnout, loneliness, sleep deprivation, sadness, or anxiety? Have you ever experienced the highs of performing live with the lows of coming off stage? Have you ever felt guilty for not feeling ok?

Has a friend or peer struggled with the demands of the job? Or has an artist you know of spoken publically about the challenges they've experienced?

Even when things are going well…

The music industry is face-paced. With strenuous tour schedules, media commitments, consistent travel, jet lag, excessive tiredness, and a need to be away from home for long periods of time. As amazing as is it, it can also be a challenging place to work.

The Artist Wellbeing Programme © has been designed to create a professional support team around you to help you navigate these challenges. Just like a sports person has a team around them to help keep them healthy, happy and performing at their best.

There doesn’t need to be anything wrong to have your own professional team around you. Just like you go to the gym to stay fit, you can now take that same approach to all aspects of your wellbeing.

Even when things are going well, research suggests that having expert support around you before you experience challenges means you can build your resilience skills ahead of time, improving your ability to adapt. This also means you won't have to navigate challenges on your own. Your team will support you in optimising your well-being in relation to the demands of the job. Enabling you to develop knowledge and skills that help you stay healthy, happy and doing the job you love!

Girls Don’t Sync: Gaia

Girls Don’t Sync is a DJ collective that has seen a fast rise to the top of the industry since first forming during the Covid lockdown. From starting gigs online - to performing at Glastonbury and Eurovision.

In this chat, Gaia speaks candidly about the challenges that can come with working in music, and how the symptoms of stress can manifest. We talk about the complexities of these challenges, and how it’s common for artists to feel guilty for sometimes not feeling ok while they do the job they love.

In the pursuit of your art, don’t forget who makes it.

Singer-songwriter Sub Blue talks about why it’s important for artists to take the time and space in their schedules for who they are as a person outside of the industry.
